What is a CMMS migration?
A CMMS migration is the move from one computerised maintenance management system to another — carrying the asset records, work-order history, and PM schedules across so nothing is lost.
A CMMS (computerised maintenance management system) is the software a facility uses to track its equipment, work orders, preventive-maintenance schedules, and parts. A migration is the project of moving all of that off an old or unsuitable system and into a new one.
The hard part isn't installing the new software — it's the data. A maintenance system that's been running for years holds the asset register, the full work-order history, the PM triggers, and often scanned manuals and drawings. A good migration carries that history across, cleaning and reconciling it along the way, rather than starting the new system empty.
Done well, you don't just change software — you come out with cleaner, more consistent data than you had before, and you keep the decades of operating knowledge the old system held.
